Baume & Mercier is one of Switzerland's oldest watch brands, with origins in 1830 in the Swiss Jura and a history that predates most of the industry's most famous names. The brand was established by the Baume brothers in Les Bois and has spent nearly two centuries in a respected middle position in Swiss watchmaking — producing well-made timepieces more accessible than the first-tier Geneva maisons but grounded in serious craftsmanship. The Clifton, the Riviera, the Classima, and the Hampton are the brand's principal collections, each offering a distinct character: the Clifton for classical elegance, the Riviera for sports-casual versatility, the Classima for refined round-case dress watches. The Hampton's rectangular case draws a clear lineage from Cartier's Tank tradition while maintaining its own identity. Pre-owned Baume & Mercier references in steel and two-tone gold represent excellent value propositions, particularly for buyers seeking Swiss mechanical movements and genuine brand heritage at accessible secondary market prices. The brand's connection to LVMH has brought investment in movement quality and design refinement in recent years. DeMesy & Co. in Dallas has been a source for pre-owned Baume & Mercier watches since 1987.
