Ulysse Nardin is a Le Locle maison with a history dating to 1846 and a reputation earned over more than a century as one of the world's premier suppliers of marine chronometers — the precision instruments that enabled accurate celestial navigation and that the major naval powers, including the United States Navy, relied upon for their fleets. This maritime heritage informs the brand's identity to this day, particularly in the Marine collection of dress and sport watches. Ulysse Nardin's modern collector reputation rests significantly on the Trilogy of Time — the Astrolabium Galileo Galilei (1985), Planetarium Copernicus (1988), and Tellurium Johannes Kepler (1992) — three extraordinary astronomical complication watches that demonstrated the then-remarkable potential of computer-aided design in creating complex mechanisms. The Freak, introduced in 2001, was the brand's most radical statement: a watch with no dial, no hands in the conventional sense, and a movement that rotates as a hand itself, powered by an innovative silicon escapement. The Marine Chronometer, Executive Skeleton, and Classico collections offer more traditional entry points. Pre-owned Ulysse Nardin watches represent access to genuine horological innovation. DeMesy & Co. in Dallas has been authenticating pre-owned Ulysse Nardin watches since 1987.
