The Rolex Submariner's connection to James Bond is one of the most famous product placements in cinema history and a cornerstone of the model's cultural mythology. In the 1962 film Dr. No, Sean Connery's portrayal of 007 introduced the Submariner ref. 6538 to a global audience, establishing an association between the watch and the fictional superspy that has endured for over sixty years. The ref. 6538 — a large-crown, no-crown-guard model with a glossy black dial, pencil hands, and Mercedes hour hand — is now one of the most desirable vintage Rolex references in existence, partly because of its Bond provenance. Connery continued wearing the Submariner through subsequent films, and Roger Moore wore the ref. 5513 in several early Bond entries. The Submariner's Bond association informed decades of collector interest and cemented the model's identity as the definitive tool watch of the twentieth century. Pre-owned James Bond Submariner references span the original 6538 through the 5513 and into later references associated with the franchise, each carrying a piece of cinema and watchmaking history. DeMesy & Co. in Dallas has authenticated and traded pre-owned Bond Submariner references since 1987, drawing on nearly four decades of expertise.
